Letters to Matthew... From Educators: Thank you for your visit to Bishop Luers High School. The students were quoting you and discussing your words long after you departed. You have a gift for dealing with young people. After all - teenagers can be a tough crowd; your rapport with ours was instant. God bless you in your work, Mary Keefer It is difficult for me to put into words the deep gratitude I feel for the books given to our freshman class and their seminar instructors. It was such a generous gift that I am at a loss for words. Think for a moment of our 1,000 freshmen reading and discussing this book in their freshman seminar class! What better inspiration could they have to begin their college career? Marie Karam Thank you for helping us "fit our young people for heaven" and meet our mission of educating the whole person. Many young people do not understand that in order to lead a fulfilling life, they must have balance in their life; you challenge them to develop the whole person. Many young people do not think that they have talents or gifts; you ask them to find their gift and "let their light shine." Everything you speak about supports the importance of educating the whole person. Giving each student a copy of your book The Rhythm of Life will enable us to continue your message in our classes during the school year. Gratefully, Mary Lee McCoy Having attended college and also worked in a college setting, I noticed that there are many good kids that start life with high expectations and goals. Unfortunately, they either get lost through poor decision-making, loss of faith or a lack of understanding what it takes to achieve goals in life. About three months ago, I had a class of high school seniors that I felt had a great deal of potential for life. I came to realize that as teacher I needed to give this group of seniors something more than the academics that I was teaching. I needed to give them a lesson in life. After reading The Rhythm of Life and hearing Matthew speak, it wasn't hard to decide that his was the material that I needed to use to help these young adults. Matthew's kindness and unselfishness reaches beyond those that he speaks to. He is truly a gift to our society as a positive role model to our students as they begin their journey toward their goals and dreams. I wanted you to know that I have used many of your quotes to help inspire my football team. In fact, the Lancers know about minimalism and its effect on performance. From Students: I am 16 years old and a junior at Seton High School. I walked out of that auditorium just totally amazed at how powerful your words were. I now take the ten minutes a day to myself and I feel like an enormous weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I am in the middle of your fifth book and I absolutely love it. Sheryl I am a 7th grader at St. Andrew School. I like the way you reached everybody in the room and I felt part of the conversation. I was very inspired to go out and strive to be a better person and work towards that second step. I found that when I plan, organize, be enthusiastic, and work towards something, I can achieve a goal much easier. Also, the part about taking ten minutes a day to sit and think has become a part of my daily routine. Davis Even at such a young age (freshman) I was really touched by your speech. For the longest time I thought everyone had this yearning for "completeness" that seemed impossible to grasp. But now I know that anything that I want to accomplish in life is at my finger tips. Thank you for your inspirational message, it touched my heart. It seems like finally someone understood my every thought and feeling. Courtney I wanted to thank you and Matthew Kelly for coming today. The message was one I needed to hear, but didn't know I needed to hear it until I did. Lucia I have been listening to the same three or four tapes of Matthew's for the past year and a half and still they never get tired, and they never lose their spark, it's just an amazing gift from God that he can put so much heart and passion into what he believes and thankfully, what he believes is nothing but pure truth and conviction for that truth. I based a project last year on the 5 signs of declining civilization that I heard in one of Matthew's talks. The way he puts absolutely every aspect of life into perspective is just something that can really get down to the core of a young person. Let Matthew know that he has an amazing affect on youth. I have just finished your new book, The Rhythm of Life and must tell you how it affected me. Every time I picked this book to read, after stopping wherever I was, I became so energized , so filled with hope and maybe just such a great big shaking of the spirit that I was often moved to tears, or found myself walking through my house doing chores with such a song in my heart! I just wanted to thank you for all you have done for me. I travel a lot and always bring your tapes with me and it helps me get through my travels until I can get back and see my family again. My friends and family and employees thank you also because I am a better person for it. I would like to let you know how much I love the book, Call to Joy. A Call to Joy is the best book I have ever read and your words stay with me every day. It has definitely helped me on my journey toward God. Let me begin by simply saying that your book, The Rhythm of Life is the best book I have read in twenty years. The book is one of those I will read over and over and over. In your letter you stated that… you hoped (the retreat in Fatima) had made a difference in our lives and I am here to say that it has been one of the most significant trips I have ever taken in my life. By trips I do not mean just physical travel, but spiritual distance! It has brought to light so many issues that were just lingering and wanting so much to surface. I will forever be grateful in my heart to all of you for allowing this to happen. How can I express my appreciation of your pilgrimage to Fatima? Thanks to you I have never experienced time better spent in getting closer to God. Your teachings of "silent prayer" will hold dear to my heart. I wanted to write a note to thank you again for everything you did to make the Fatima Retreat so special. I went looking for answers to a few things in my life… I've found peace and joy in my heart that I haven't been able to touch for awhile. These gifts are more precious to me than anything else. |

It was like hearing and watching thunder and lightning (not the scary kind when it's right on top of you, but the kind you watch in the distance with awe and amazement). You were the best I've seen…your light shines forever in all the hearts you touch! This year I listened and my heart heard you. My wife and I had the privilege to hear one of your talks recently… I thank you for all of your hard work and dedication with your (schools) project, and I pray that it continues to thrive… The youth of the United States need you…all you have to do is turn on the television to see why!
