Letters to Matthew...

From Educators:

Thank you for your visit to Bishop Luers High School. The students were quoting you and discussing your words long after you departed. You have a gift for dealing with young people. After all - teenagers can be a tough crowd; your rapport with ours was instant.

God bless you in your work,

Mary Keefer
Principal

It is difficult for me to put into words the deep gratitude I feel for the books given to our freshman class and their seminar instructors. It was such a generous gift that I am at a loss for words. Think for a moment of our 1,000 freshmen reading and discussing this book in their freshman seminar class! What better inspiration could they have to begin their college career?

Thank you for helping us "fit our young people for heaven" and meet our mission of educating the whole person. Many young people do not understand that in order to lead a fulfilling life, they must have balance in their life; you challenge them to develop the whole person. Many young people do not think that they have talents or gifts; you ask them to find their gift and "let their light shine." Everything you speak about supports the importance of educating the whole person. Giving each student a copy of your book The Rhythm of Life will enable us to continue your message in our classes during the school year.

Gratefully,

Mary Lee McCoy

Having attended college and also worked in a college setting, I noticed that there are many good kids that start life with high expectations and goals. Unfortunately, they either get lost through poor decision-making, loss of faith or a lack of understanding what it takes to achieve goals in life.

About three months ago, I had a class of high school seniors that I felt had a great deal of potential for life. I came to realize that as teacher I needed to give this group of seniors something more than the academics that I was teaching. I needed to give them a lesson in life. After reading The Rhythm of Life and hearing Matthew speak, it wasn't hard to decide that his was the material that I needed to use to help these young adults.

Matthew's kindness and unselfishness reaches beyond those that he speaks to. He is truly a gift to our society as a positive role model to our students as they begin their journey toward their goals and dreams.

Sincerely,

Andrew Brinkman

I am head football coach at LaSalle High School. This past summer, I read your book Rediscovering Catholicism and this spring I read The Rhythm of Life. I wanted you to know that I have used many of your quotes to help inspire my football team. In fact, the Lancers know about minimalism and its effect on performance. Our Principal recently asked me to speak to our faculty about that topic. I told them about your story about minimalism.

Your writings are inspiring and at LaSalle High School we will try to live them and create habits that make us the best people that we can be.

May God Bless, and thanks for your wonderful work.

You spoke to our students and staff last month, and I wanted to let you know that you really had a positive impact on many of us here. I have noticed more students in the chapel at lunchtime, and one of our bulletin boards for lent reads "how are you spending your ten minutes a day in the classroom of silence?" I have had the students tell me about their prayer time or reading your book… and teachers, too. Thank you for allowing God to use this way. May He continue to bless your ministry.

From Students:

I am 16 years old and a junior at Seton High School. I walked out of that auditorium just totally amazed at how powerful your words were. I now take the ten minutes a day to myself and I feel like an enormous weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I am in the middle of your fifth book and I absolutely love it.

I am a 7th grader at St. Andrew School. I like the way you reached everybody in the room and I felt part of the conversation. I was very inspired to go out and strive to be a better person and work towards that second step. I found that when I plan, organize, be enthusiastic, and work towards something, I can achieve a goal much easier. Also, the part about taking ten minutes a day to sit and think has become a part of my daily routine.

Even at such a young age (freshman) I was really touched by your speech. For the longest time I thought everyone had this yearning for "completeness" that seemed impossible to grasp. But now I know that anything that I want to accomplish in life is at my finger tips. Thank you for your inspirational message, it touched my heart. It seems like finally someone understood my every thought and feeling.

I wanted to thank you and Matthew Kelly for coming today. The message was one I needed to hear, but didn't know I needed to hear it until I did. It was one of the most worthwhile hours I have ever spent in school.

Thank you for coming to Bishop Hafey. You made me really think about what I'm doing with my life and who I'm effecting. You're doing the right thing and I just hope that one day I can touch as many people as you have. Thank you for the books. It's very inspiring.

I have been listening to the same three or four tapes of Matthew's for the past year and a half and still they never get tired, and they never lose their spark, it's just an amazing gift from God that he can put so much heart and passion into what he believes and thankfully, what he believes is nothing but pure truth and conviction for that truth.

I based a project last year on the 5 signs of declining civilization that I heard in one of Matthew's talks. The way he puts absolutely every aspect of life into perspective is just something that can really get down to the core of a young person. Let Matthew know that he has an amazing affect on youth.

What people are saying about retreats   Back To Top

As a mother of two small children, the days go by so fast and I am so focused on them that sometimes I forget myself . . . not just spiritually, but also physically, emotionally and intellectually. Matthew's Milford, Ohio retreat really helped me to bring back to focus what will make me the-best-version-of-myself and the best mother I could ever be!

Heather Leonard
Cincinnati, Ohio

I had time to really listen to what Matthew was saying, reflect on it, and then put it into action. I came home feeling renewed and excited about my faith! It was an experience that I will never forget. I definitely plan on attending another Matthew Kelly retreat in the near future.

I loved it! The people, the place, and the presence of peace were all gifts that were continuously being unwrapped as the weekend progressed. Once upon a time, God gave Matthew Kelly an acorn of an idea and Matthew has allowed it to grow into a mighty oak of faith, hope, and love. If the weekend had been a bolt of fabric, I would have made a coat of it!

What people are saying about Matthew Kelly   Back To Top

"[A Call to Joy] is a wise and inspiring book, steeped in an age-old Christian tradition, but with fresh and practical insights on prayer as a way to find healing, happiness, and peace. I highly recommend it."

-Ron Hansen, author of Mariette in Ecstasy and Atticus

"I feel God is really using him to bring us back to prayer, good living, and the truth. His books merit reading by everyone. He deeply impressed me and I hope many more are able to hear the message he brings... I felt honored he had come across my path."

-H.J. Kennedy, Former Bishop of Armidale, Australia

"Matthew Kelly speaks convincingly about his faith in God and his life of prayer. Using stories and anecdotes, he succeeds in holding the attention of his peers longer than any homilist would dare."

-Rev. John Breslin, S.J., Georgetown University Vice President for Chaplaincy

"Matthew Kelly is taking the soul of this country by storm! To witness so many people of different aspirations profoundly affected by this young man's story is a wonderful tonic."

-John Hartnett, Ireland

"Matthew Kelly is a young man, but he has the wisdom of the writer of the Book of Proverbs. He has the wisdom of the ancient Church Fathers."

-Fr. Kevin Connelly C.P., Tasmania, Australia

"When I first heard of Matthew Kelly I was intrigued, a bit curious and very cautious. After a personal introduction and having read A Call to Joy, I invited Matthew to address our ecumenical community in St. Helena, California. Months after his visit the impact of his message remains."

-James F. Miller, Executive Vice President, Sutter Home Winery

"To hear Matthew Kelly is to forget Matthew Kelly and remember only one's call to holiness."

-Rev. Thomas King, S.J., Georgetown Professor of Theology and author of Thomas Merton, Mystic at the Center of America.

"[Matthew Kelly's] heart and mind have been touched by God. It is the only way I can explain the beauty and depth of the thoughts he shares in the pages of this book."

-Joseph Girzone, author of Joshua

"Matthew Kelly presents a vision of what can transform our nation, and indeed the world. The world changes not because of the masses, but because of a few great spiritual leaders. I feel certain this young man will become one of the great spiritual voices of our age."

-Fr. Jim Willig, Pastor, Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Cincinnati

"More than a message giver, Matthew is like an interpreter for the soul, helping us to say and express what we know and feel but can't always articulate."

-Monsignor Jim Lisante, Host of Among Friends

"Matthew captivates people with his message of encouragement. He also challenges us to resist the pressures of the modern world so as to live the Christian life to its fullness. Matthew's inspired, fresh, and authentic call to conversion has earned him invitations to speak in almost every country in the world. In less than two years Matthew has become one of the most listened to Christian youths of our time."

-Rev. Bill Watson, S.J., Director of Retreats, Georgetown University

What people are saying about Matthew Kelly's Books and Audios   Back To Top

I have just finished your new book, The Rhythm of Life and must tell you how it affected me. Every time I picked this book to read, after stopping wherever I was, I became so energized , so filled with hope and maybe just such a great big shaking of the spirit that I was often moved to tears, or found myself walking through my house doing chores with such a song in my heart!

Lynn Cannizzaro, Bayport, NY

I just wanted to thank you for all you have done for me. I travel a lot and always bring your tapes with me and it helps me get through my travels until I can get back and see my family again. My friends and family and employees thank you also because I am a better person for it.

Dan McCarthy, Via e-mail

I would like to let you know how much I love the book, Call to Joy. A Call to Joy is the best book I have ever read and your words stay with me every day. It has definitely helped me on my journey toward God.

Kim Bradway, Buffalo, New York

Let me begin by simply saying that your book, The Rhythm of Life is the best book I have read in twenty years. The book is one of those I will read over and over and over. It is far too filled with incredible wisdom that one reading is simply and totally inadequate.

Fr. Ron Rieder, Huntington, Indiana

Thank you for the beautiful book, Mustard Seeds. May many mustard seeds fall on fertile ground and help people to find peace and joy in living a Christian Life. And, may our youth of today regain their dignity and sense of self-worth. Thank you and God bless,

Rosina Ryan, Pendle Hill, Australia

What people are saying about the Fatima Retreats   Back To Top

In your letter you stated that… you hoped (the retreat in Fatima) had made a difference in our lives and I am here to say that it has been one of the most significant trips I have ever taken in my life. By trips I do not mean just physical travel, but spiritual distance! It has brought to light so many issues that were just lingering and wanting so much to surface. I will forever be grateful in my heart to all of you for allowing this to happen.

George and Michelle Preskar, Elk Grove, California

How can I express my appreciation of your pilgrimage to Fatima? Thanks to you I have never experienced time better spent in getting closer to God. Your teachings of "silent prayer" will hold dear to my heart.

Pat Wehrmeyer, Cincinnati, Ohio

I wanted to write a note to thank you again for everything you did to make the Fatima Retreat so special. I went looking for answers to a few things in my life… I've found peace and joy in my heart that I haven't been able to touch for awhile. These gifts are more precious to me than anything else.

Mary Ellen Kreutzer, Cincinnati, Ohio

What people are saying about Events   Back To Top

It was like hearing and watching thunder and lightning (not the scary kind when it's right on top of you, but the kind you watch in the distance with awe and amazement). You were the best I've seen…your light shines forever in all the hearts you touch! This year I listened and my heart heard you.

Kenzie Keyes, New York City, New York

My wife and I had the privilege to hear one of your talks recently… I thank you for all of your hard work and dedication with your (schools) project, and I pray that it continues to thrive… The youth of the United States need you…all you have to do is turn on the television to see why! Thanks for all you have done and continue to do, and may the Lord bless you and continue to speak through you.

Matthew Evans, Via e-mail

I thank you for revitalizing my spirituality. I have always been a spiritual person, and strongly believe in the power of prayer. Yet somehow I never made time for it unless I was in dire need. Now I go in to the "classroom of silence" everyday. The more I do it, the more I want to. Prayer is now a part of my daily routine.

Rachelle Gray, Cincinnati, Ohio

Your presentation at St. Vincent's Church was awesome... You have a tremendous gift from God. You expressed yourself in a down-to-earth fashion that we could identify with. My husband and I were deeply moved by what you had to say… You are making a difference in our lives. Keep up the good work.

Pat and Jim Kirchner, Perryville, Missouri

The Matthew Kelly Foundation and the impact that it makes on our youth is so vitally important. This impact gets many young people to point B - eternity with God. I hope the foundation will always continue to find it possible to make this contribution to God and to society.
